Confest is a unique event that brings together conference-style discussion with the celebratory vibe of a festival. Plants, People & Planet is Pandy Farm’s third Confest - and we are excited to build on the themes of Nature sovereignty and human thriving - bringing global perspectives to our local communtiy.

Panel: Pridd, Enaid & Chymdeithas / Soil, Soul and Society
What does it mean to work with the Soil? Can working with Nature heal us? How do the current political systems make working the land so challenging?
2.15pm - 3.30pm
To work with soil is to enter a relationship - one built on patience, reciprocity, and humility rather than control. It means reading weather, tending microbial life invisible to the eye, and accepting that growth follows its own timeline, not ours. But this panel asks a harder question too: can that relationship heal something in us? As rates of anxiety, burnout, and disconnection rise, more people are turning to the land not just for food, but for meaning - seeking a kind of repair that clinics and screens can't offer. Yet this return to soil doesn't happen in a vacuum. Land access, subsidy structures, planning law, and market pressures often make working the land an act of resistance as much as livelihood. Smallholders and community growers face bureaucratic hurdles, unstable economics, and policies designed for industrial scale, not human scale.
This discussion brings together practitioners, growers, and thinkers to explore what it truly means to work with the soil, whether that work can restore our wellbeing, and what has to change politically for that relationship to be sustainable - for people and land.

Panel: Hawliau Natur / Rights of Nature
Whose voice speaks for a forest that can't speak for itself? Can Rights protect Nature, or just prove humans still hold all the power?
3.45pm - 5.00pm
Around the world, rivers, forests, and mountains are being granted legal personhood - the right to exist, flow, and flourish, and the standing to defend that right in court. From the Whanganui River in Aotearoa New Zealand to the Ganges, Lake Erie, and beyond, the Rights of Nature movement asks a foundational question: what if ecosystems weren't property to be owned, but subjects with their own legal interests?
This panel explores what it actually means to extend rights beyond the human - philosophically, legally, and practically. Where does this idea come from, and whose worldviews shaped it long before Western law caught up? Can granting a river the right to flow unimpeded genuinely change outcomes on the ground, or does it simply shift environmental battles into courtrooms where economic and political power still hold sway? And if Nature has rights, who speaks for her, and how do we weigh those rights against human need, development, and survival?
This discussion brings together legal scholars, activists, and academics to examine whether the Rights of Nature is a genuine shift in how we relate to the living world.
